These Hair Pins Are The Secret To Effortlessly Chic Updos

Over the course the pandemic, my beauty routine has improved so that I can make Zoom meetings look half-decent. On the hair front, tending to my thick mane of curls, I’ve found that nothing yields more satisfying–and endless–possibilities than tossing my hair up with large U-shaped hair pins. I find that U-shaped hairpins work so well if they are properly secured. A U_-pin will give you more movement and volume than a pony which is more restricted. They look so cool! A Unpin can be used to add volume and texture to your hair, regardless of whether you are setting it up damp or dry. Roszak says that a hairpin won’t cause a tight crease like elastics.

U_ pins are practical and easy to use. However, they can also serve as a catalyst for more unique styles. These can range from classically Gallic to ’70s Victoriana, to contemporary avant-garde. Your approach may be determined by the type of U pin you choose. While visiting Judi Rosen’s shop in New York City’s Nolita neighbourhood, I came across a collection of bold, bright U-shaped Pins by NYC brand Mae Mae. They were designed by Chloe Bernbach, a jewelry maker. They looked great in the MoMA Design Store with their unique shapes and bright colors. Bernbach explains that she wanted the pins to look luxurious but also punk. She was inspired by antique hairpins she found at flea markets and created a modern, sharp interpretation. “The pins can display a great pop of color or a subtle sparkle, depending on your mood.”
