Why Taryn Toomey Loves Bathing In The Fetal Position
Taryn Toomey’s Class is not your typical workout. The class is known for its unique blend of yoga and meditation. It also includes HIIT and dance. The original Toomey’s business, which was a small one-man operation that was located in a rented space for children’s dancing, has become a national sensation, loved by celebrities, spiritual wellness lovers, and hardcore fitness enthusiasts alike.

Toomey is the founder and CEO of The Class. She lives in New York City along with her daughters, aged 10 and 12. She continues to teach regularly. The class has grown its virtual platform. Members can now stream live classes and watch them on-demand using a large library of prerecorded workouts. The Class’s reach has expanded, with collaborations with artists such as Alicia Keys on themed workouts, and the launch of a line for skin, hair and bath products in partnership by Routine in Canada.
Toomey may seem intense. She is a big, capital-E emotion and she waxes poetic on many of them when she does use social media. She gets up at the crack of dawn, and spends most of her evenings “mothering” herself. She is a strong believer in self-improvement. Toomey is a big fan of her sleep. She tells SELF that she used to think she was like “I know what to do” for too long. But then, you realize how important it is to get enough sleep. “I believe the cumulative rhythms of your sleep are important. It signals to yourself by closing the lights, walking upstairs, putting away my stuff, bathing, then waking up again so I can check the boxes. Then I get into a routine where I’m mothering myself.” Toomey takes SELF on a walk through her bedtime routine, from beginning to end. This includes her transformational bath rituals, her realistic relationship with technology, and the benefits of an early bedtime.
